Who is Dr. Eva-Maria Holzheu?

Eva-Maria is not only an experienced poultry veterinarian who supports numerous farming operations across Carinthia, but also one of four officially appointed company veterinarians responsible for monitoring operations at the Glanegg site. In this role, she serves as a slaughter and meat inspection veterinarian. With extensive expertise and a strong sense of responsibility, she ensures that all processes related to slaughter are carried out in full compliance with animal welfare standards and strict hygiene regulations.

What qualifications are required for this role?

The foundation is a degree in veterinary medicine. But that's just the beginning: anyone who wants to work in meat inspection must also complete a specialized training program and pass a dedicated exam. Only then can one be officially appointed to carry out these critical duties.

A typical workday at WECH

The day begins early with the live animal inspection. Before slaughter begins, all animals are checked to ensure they are healthy and that animal welfare guidelines are strictly followed. This means the animals must not experience stress, pain, or unnecessary fear. Dr. Holzheu is present throughout the stunning and slaughtering processes to monitor that everything is carried out properly and humanely.
